The 2nd Longest Suspension Bridge in Asia

On the way back to Daejeon, we made a few stops. On the way to the beach, we saw a bridge with a big red pepper entrance to it. We noted it and thought it might be fun to stop on the way back. We also saw streetlights shaped like these big red peppers. Evidently, this whole area is a big red pepper area.

When we stopped, little did we know that this is the 2nd longest suspension bridge in Asia. It is held up by tons of ropes and is just a little ways off the water. It was quite nice and only about a year old.

One of the idiosyncrasies of Korea: We were traveling during the Korean "Chuseok" Holiday, this is equivalent to our Thanksgiving in America. Hardly anyone was here on this day. However, the oidishee (man) at the parking lot was very concerned that we had parked in a bus parking space. Go figure? (See the empty parking lot with our car!) Those of you who have lived here know exactly what we are talking about and are laughing!

Daecheon Beach

During our week off for Chuseok holiday, we ventured to Daecheon Beach for the first time. We've heard lots about it. It was a beautiful beach. The water was great. There was some minor jellyfish stings for some visitors although our family escaped without any marks. The water was nice and much beach fun was had...

We stayed at the Taecheon Beach Association property. To describe this, perhaps it is best to think of a traditional church camp. There is a main lodge and meeting area and many cabins scattered about. It was originally a get away and summer retreat for many missionaries. Many of the houses have undergone renovations and quite a few more are still in desperate need of work. The lodge was done fairly recently and is nice. They had some nice playground equipment.

Many other staff from the 2 schools visited there as well. The McAllister's brought an inflatable boat with them which all the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

One afternoon, we had so much fun that Sara just wore out. She collapsed on our beach mat and fell asleep in her towel.

One day the kids made an entire castle area inclusive of a tunnel under the entrance, seashell crowned walls and even some gardens and people. You can see the rather large beach area. This part of the coast of Korea has some of the largest tidal fluctuations in the world from high tide to low tide. It is a fairly flat beach so it made for a nice play area.

This is actually the back side of the camp area. We didn't go in the water here but it was quite beautiful.

Chuseok 2010

The ELC always dresses up for Chuseok in their Korean garb. They go around and bow to people in their hanboks. Sara managed to fit in hers for another year. It has become a bit short for her as it is supposed to reach the ground. However, you have to go with what you have...

The ELC made quite the parade. It was a lot of fun.

Firsts: Rice Cereal and Saucers

Ethan had his first adventure in the exer-saucer. He is strong enough to push up some and hold himself up. He is still a little floppy at times but can reach for toys. He also got to experience his first rice cereal. Laura had big plans that this would result in a good night of rest for all of us. The first night, he was up at least every 3 hours to eat, which was a big step back. However, it has gotten better since and he is loving it. He eats a lot as you can see from his growing size. He isn't so thick as he is tall and long.
