Evil Little Bug

So, we have been enjoying our summer vacation. There have been lots of highlights of which I will post more about later, but the current blog, must be about my adventures as a single mother (since Darren is away for 5 weeks working on his doctorate in Pennsylvania).

Things have been going fairly smoothly, considering two kids is more difficult than the one I worked with last year. However, things came crashing down on Monday night, when Kacy woke me up in the night saying her tummy hurt. I reassured her she was okay and told her to just crawl in and snuggle up with me (some of you already know where this is heading!) Shortly thereafter I jumped out of bed because Kacy was throwing up in my bed. We went downstairs to check on things and found my sister in the bathroom with her own digestive issues. After we got everyone cleaned up (Kacy let loose a few times) we went back to bed and I thought we were doing okay.

Tuesday night, we were out registering for baby stuff (with my sister Lesley who is due in November) when Sara let loose on the other end. I looked down at the shopping cart that she was in and she had leaked out of her diaper and there was poop everywhere. Since my sister is a too be mother and her husband where there I showed them so they would have an idea of what to look forward too! I didn't have a change of clothes but being at Babies R Us I just bought one, bought some extra wipes (because I was sure I didn't have enough) and headed into the bathroom with the shopping cart. About 10 minutes later, I came back with a clean baby in a new outfit and things were looking good.

Wednesday, my sister, Lesley was willing to drive me, Kacy, and Sara up to meet Darren in D.C. (he was coming from PA). We were just crossing the N.C/VA border when I smelled something not very good. We pulled over at the next exit and I was shocked at what I found. I have been a mother now for 3 1/2 years and have been around my share of babies and have never in my life seen some much "water poop" (as a Korean speaker once told me!) I had to strategize about the best way to deal with this. First I got Sara out and got her all cleaned up...at this point I opted out of putting clothes on her in fear they would be ruined. Then I tackled the car seat. Now, I wasn't sure what to do, but I just started taking the padding off of the car seat. These things are manufactured well. It took me no less than 20 mintues to figure out how to get the thing apart. My plan was to just take off all the padding, clean up the rest of the seat, put some clothe down and let Sara ride without any padding until I could figure out what to do. However, after spending the better part of an hour cleaning that seat and having no idea how to reassemble it in order to put Sara back into I came to the realization that it was no longer worth it. I told my sister--Lesley to get in the driver's seat and I got in the back holding Sara (and breaking all sorts of laws and making myself sick with nervousness). I told her that I was going to buy a new car seat and I left that car seat sitting on the side of the road at a rest area...full of crap! Somebody was going to get a surprise.

So, we got in the car and took off looking for a Walmart/K-Mart/Target, etc. I had no idea how difficult that would be. We drove for 40 minutes and couldn't find anything. We finally pulled over at a gas station and asked her where the closest one was. She said in one direction 20 miles, in the other direction she had no idea when we would fine one. Fortunately we were headed in the right direction. So, 20 miles later we pulled off, found a Target, bought more wet wipes, two towels, garbage bags, and a new car seat. I wanted to protect this car seat. I figured the only thing worse than telling Darren I left the car seat on the side of the road would be to tell him I did it twice...which I have no doubt if it happened again I would have done the same thing, only I would have worked on it for an hour first.

Oh yeah, maybe the worse part about this whole thing is that it happened in my sister's new Acura SUV...a sweet car and it was all over her car seats too...fortunately they were leather, but it still smells in there.

Thursday we spend time with Darren...he wakes up in the middle of the night and he has gotten the vengence of this evil little bug.

Laura, is still safe, I mean I think that the world would end if mom got sick! I do know that I have cleaned up enough poop and vomit to last me a really long time. Please pray that I somehow surpass all this.

I promise the next post will tell you a little bit about our summer and possibly a short video of Sara crawling...which she has mastered in the last few days.

oh my gosh. that story had me groaning aloud, and laughing a little. Oh please God, don't ever let that happen to us.

the crappy car seat on the side of the road had me laughing! I think if that had all happened to E, I would have felt so guilty I would have sent her off for a shopping junket with her sister for a weekend or something!
