Tennessee and Denny's

Our good friends, Steve and Becca Denny, moved to Tennessee with their kids last summer. We have been pretty consistent with summer vacations with them. However, due to their move last year and Darren being in PA we didn’t vacation with them last year. This year we decided to go to their hometown and see their new life. So, we headed up to Knoxville, TN. According to the Denny’s you come to Knoxville to eat and eat we did...too much! It was good though. We also visited their school and were able to go to church with them.

After a few days in Knoxville we headed down to Chattanooga. Chattanooga is a very family friendly city. We began our first day with a ride up the incline railway. The incline railway is a train ride up an extremely steep hill. It takes you up to Lookout Mountain. At the top is a museum for the Battle above the Clouds that took place during the civil war. Although it was entertaining to the adults the kids didn’t enjoy the museum too much. So we didn’t spend too much time there...especially after Sara knocked a sign off a railing and Darren set off an alarm retrieving it near an enormous painting.

Next we saw Ruby Falls, a water fall that is approx. 1,200 underground. We had to take an elevator 260 feet underground and then walked about 1 hour (round trip) in a cave. The waterfall was beautiful and the kids loved it! They were on an adventure to find the waterfall and the guide acted as if they were finding it and she didn’t know where it was.

Following those adventures we headed to the aquarium. Chattanooga has a huge aquarium with both a fresh water side and a salt water side. We saw a ton of animals and the kids loved running around in there.

By the end of this day we had walked a ton and our feet were tired. We had lots of fun and lots of memories to take back with us. We wish we were closer to you all, Denny’s, but we look forward to next year...Chicago?
